MGW Shifter Handle Install

The following pictures are from the installation of a MGW Shifter Handle in 1998 Mustang Cobra with a Pro 5.0 shifter installed. I purchased the shifter handle from MGW Ltd for $35.00 plus shipping. This handle will work with stock and most aftermarket shifters. This handle has full reach and tilt adjustment so it can accommodate virtually any reach or hand position you desire. It accomplishes this with it's unique telescoping and rotating hardened steel shaft. It also allows you to mount the handle in a way that reduces vibrations and noises.

1. Here is a picture of everything that comes in the package.

2. The first step is to remove the shifter boot to expose the shifter. Below are pictures of the original Pro 5.0 Shifter.

4. Here are some comparison shots of the Pro 5.0 shifter and the MGW handle. The Pro 5.0 is the bottom shifter.

5. The next step is to install the shifter handle base using the supplied nuts, bolts and rubber spacers. I chose the biggest rubber isolator to reduce the shifter noise. Notice that the supplied handle has bolts that thread into the shifter and use nuts on the back end to keep the shifter from vibrating loose. This method holds the shifter very securely.

6. Next I installed the adjustable steel shaft and set at a position comfortable for me. Below are some comparison shots of the new handle and the Pro 5.0 handle.

7. Lastly, put the included rubber spacers on the steel shaft to keep the leather boot up. Then put the shifter boot back on.

8. Impressions. I wish I did this install years ago. This handle has made it easier to reach all gears especially 5th gear. The new handle has also removed almost all of the noise associated with an aftermarket shifter. I would highly recommend this handle to anyone.
